Community Impact

What We Do

The Y makes accessible the support and opportunities that empower people and communities to learn, grow and thrive. With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y nurtures the potential of every youth and teen, improves the nation’s health and well-being, and provides opportunities to give back and support neighbors. How we do it

There is no other nonprofit quite like the Y. That’s because in 10,000 neighborhoods across the nation, we have the presence and partnerships to not just promise, but to deliver, lasting personal and social change.

  • The Y is community centered. For nearly 160 years, we’ve been listening and responding to our communities.
  • The Y brings people together. We connect people of all ages and backgrounds to bridge the gaps in community needs.
  • The Y nurtures potential. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
  • The Y has local presence and national reach. We mobilize local communities to effect lasting, meaningful change.

Our Impact

The Y is, and always will be, dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected and secure children, adults, families and communities. Every day our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child and when a community comes together for the common good.

Y Impact Stories

“As a single mother attending college full time and working nearly full-time, our time is limited. We live with family so the time we spend at the YMCA is very important because my daughter and I are together creating a strong bond between us. As a parent, this is the most important thing to me. Thank you!”

“My child and I have been greatly blessed by our membership at the YMCA. I am very grateful to our sponsors. There were times in my life when going to the Y literally saved my sanity. It helps to be able to go somewhere and work out, play, swim or visit the staff and friends at the YMCA. I am a recent college graduate and don’t have very much money. It really helps to have sponsors and I am grateful to them.”

- Edith

“The YMCA is a very safe place for my grandchildren to go. The YMCA has brought a positive impact in our lives. I am a single grandparent raising 7 children with two knee replacements. I am not able, by being on disability, to go any other place that can keep my legs strong and provide a safe, fun, educational place for the grandchildren. The doctors say that I need to continue therapy and exercise so that I can walk better and lose weight. I am on a very limited amount of income since I took my grandchildren in so that they could all stay together. I couldn’t bear to think of the children ever being separated by the state.”
