Y Aquatics
The Y’s swimming program isn’t just for kids. We offer courses for ages thirteen and up, at levels from Beginners, to Intermediate, to Advanced.
Additionally, our aquatics program includes:
Terrified of Water: If you’ve been avoiding water activities because you don’t know how to swim or are afraid of the water, this course if designed for you. Under the safe, comfortable guidance of a Y instructor, you can learn basic swim skills that will give you more confidence in your swimming ability.
Master’s Swimming: Open to all YMCA members aged 18 years or older, Master’s-level workouts help those who are interested in competitive swimming or are working toward fitness goals. Practices occur during the week in the early morning hours. Join anytime!
Arthritis Program: In conjunction with the Arthritis Foundation, the Y provides this recreational group activity. The program is designed to increase your range of motion and build strength, while decreasing pain and stiffness.
Aquacise: Water exercise is a great way to burn calories without putting extra stress on your joints! Our aquacise class emphasizes low to moderate intensity exercise.
Water Works: This is a high-intensity, water aerobics class. Aerobic conditioning, toning, muscle training, interval aerobic training and optional deep-water training is included.
Deep Water Circuit Training: Our water-based circuit training is a self-directed, non-impact activity. A training program will teach you the exercises you need to meet your specific fitness goals. The workout is performed while using flotation devices in the deep end of the pool.
Y Health & Fitness
Free Fitness Orientation: Our trained staff can introduce you to the Strive and Life Fitness stations, so that you will get the best possible results from your workouts.
Strive Smart Strength Equipment: We are extremely proud to be one of the first facilities in the area to offer this equipment. Strive delivers the most effective and efficient workout available, providing you with the ability to train each body part in less than 2 minutes per machine. It’s an incredible total body workout in only 20-30 minutes! Strive classes are now being offered to keep you on track. Sign up in the Life Center.
Personal Training: Get the one-on-one attention and motivation you need to meet your fitness goals. Sign up today to meet with one of our knowledgeable and qualified personal trainers. Information on rates and trainers is available at the Front Desk.
Personal Pilates Training: If you are interested in an exercise program that engages the mind and body together for health, well-being and fitness, try Personal Pilates Training. Pilates combines body strengthening and Yoga as well as relaxation techniques to achieve overall well-being.
Weight Lifting: This class is perfect for adults who want to become more comfortable and efficient in using resistance training as part of their fitness program. Class is held in our universal and free weight rooms. Women only and co-ed programs are offered.
Y Adult Leagues
Recreational & Competitive Volleyball Leagues: Our co-ed volleyball leagues are a great way to spend time with friends and stay fit. Registration is by team only. Pre-registration is required.
Racquetball League: There are five racquetball/handball courts that members may use for free. Members may reserve courts up to two days ahead of time by calling or coming to the front desk. There is also an active racquetball league for different skill levels. For more information see the Racquetball Page.

Special Interest Programs for Adults:
New classes are added to the YMCA’s program all the time, but here is a sampling of our most popular selections.
Tae Kwon Do: Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art with techniques that blend several ancient self-defense systems into a single dynamic one. Extensive kicking and footwork patterns characterize the sport. Our program stresses self-esteem, self-discipline, physical fitness, balance, flexibility and concentration.
Goju Karate: Karate classes build coordination, self-confidence, discipline and respect for self and others. The program incorporates blocks, punches, kicks, throws and other techniques. This is the oldest continuously running karate program in Springfield and the only Springfield karate program affiliated with the Bill “Superfoot” Wallace system.
Massage: Contact the Front Desk to schedule an appointment with the Men’s or Women’s Health Center certified therapists. In addition to the hourly fee, non-members must purchase a day pass.
Adapted Physical Education:
The YMCA is equipped to handle the special accessibility and participatory needs of persons with mental or physical disabilities. We have Adapted Physical Education (APE) staff on our team and we offer APE memberships at a reduced rate to those who qualify.
All in One Exercise Class: This is an open recreation opportunity with universal weights, track and stationery bikes.
Bowling League: Bowling is offered at AMF Laketown Lanes at Stanton and Stevenson Drive. Ramps and guides are provided. The cost for this program is funded by local labor and trade unions.
Swimming: Swimming is offered during any scheduled family swim. Hoyer lift is available with advance notice.
7th Inning Stretch: This is a gentle stretching chair exercise class offered in a group setting.
Family Programs:
Families are encouraged to join us on family nights for some quality time together. A variety of activities are offered every Friday night and Sunday. Time is specifically set aside for families to swim, play basketball or racquetball and use the Youth and Family Center. Nonmember families must accompany a member and purchase a family pass. Additional youth accompanying a family must purchase a youth pass.
