Health & Fitness Classes:  The Y offers a diverse array of aerobic and strength-building classes for participants aged 13 and older.  A complete schedule of current offerings can be found on our “Fitness at a Glance” flyer's.  Pick up a copy in the front lobby.


Land Exercise

Body Strength:  This is a challenging body-strengthening workout using hand-held weights, weighted bars, exercise balls and resistance bands.  All the tricks of the trade are used to make this workout one you won’t want to miss.

Boot Camp Challenge:  This fitness class is for those who are at a high level of fitness already and would like an extra challenge.  This 90 minute class is designed to push participants past their endurance levels by using football and military style drills, martial arts and weight training work. This class in not designed for beginning or intermediate level fitness class participants.

Bollywood Dance:  The contemporary Bollywood dance style is a fusion of traditional and folk dances, classical Indian dance—like Kathak and Bharatanatyam, and western influences—jazz, hip hop, and modern.

Hip-Hop:  In Hip Hop, movements are bouncy, fast, and funky. It is foot oriented, but uses body isolations, popping, and break dancing. Hip Hop is highly energetic and allows the dancer to perform with freedom of movement. This dance is ideal for developing improvisational skills as well as musical interpretation.

Instructor Swap:  If you like variety this class is for you!!!  Instructors will swap every week to bring you an assortment of your favorite classes!!!  This is a fun, diverse class that will challenge participants of all levels!!

Kardio Kick: Designed to work the entire body.  Kick boxing combined with cardiovascular and toning moves makes this a fun and challenging class. 
 

Kardio Kick Power Challenge:  Never the same class twice!!  This class incorporates power intervals and plyometric moves.  This class is for experienced exercisers looking for a challenge.

Kick & Step:  This class combines both benefits of Kardio Kick and Step!!!  You will work your entire body with challenging kick boxing moves and have fun while stepping to improve cardiovascular conditioning!!  Two great classes wrapped into one!!!

Pilates:  This class focuses on strengthening the core muscles that surround and support the spine first, then strengthening work can progress to the extremities.  A focus on breathing and balance make this a class that addresses all areas of fitness for your body. 

PilatesYOGA:  This is a Yoga-based body strengthening class.  This class focuses on strengthening the core muscles that surround and support the spine first, then strengthening work can progress to the extremities.  Every exercise is accompanied by Yoga-based stretches to warm up and stretch out the muscles being exercised.  A focus on breathing and balance make this a class that addresses all areas of fitness for your body.

Power Pump:  Challenge yourself with this high intensity body strengthening fitness class that uses bar bells, hand held weights and resistance bands to increase muscle strength and condition the body.  Since bar bells are used, class members can increase the weight that is used for resistance to build more muscle mass and strength.  Burn calories effectively in this fast paced class, and watch your strength and muscle definition improve dramatically.

Step Blast & Step Blast Basic:  This class provides a complete aerobics program that combines all the fun cardiovascular benefits of aerobics with an excellent muscle-forming workout for buttocks, thighs, and calves.  Resistance equipment is used for toning and strength conditioning.  Those new to exercise or step should start with the step blast basic class. 

Strive Circuit: If you want to take the boring out of strength training then Strive Circuit is for you!! This is an easy 1-2-3 routine that exercises each muscle on three different resistance levels, more than traditional equipment allows. Each machine works a different muscle group in no more than a one minute and forty second set. This workout is fast, fun, and effective. It is for all ages and experience levels.

Turbo Jam:  This class combines the perfect mix of hip-shaking, urban funk with specially synched sound effects, you’ll go longer, move faster, and burn more fat and calories than you ever thought you could.  The rhythm is gonna get you!!

The Ultimate Workout: Formerly know as HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training),  trains and conditions both your anaerobic and aerobic energy systems. HIIT increases the amount of calories you burn during your exercise session and afterward because it increases the length of time it takes your body to recover from each exercise session.   HIIT is designed for people whose primary concerns are boosting overall cardiovascular fitness, endurance, and fat loss, without losing the muscle mass they already have. This is a very strenuous class and is for participants that can exercise 20-30 minutes at 70-85% of their estimated maximum heart rate.

Weights on Ball: Weights on ball allows you to incorporate weights while engaging your core. This is a great way to strength the mid section while toning the rest of your body.

Yoga:  A fitness based yoga class blending the Astanga and Vinyasa styles of Hatha Yoga to form a class that will increase your flexibility, balance, body strength and awareness.  Increase your sense of well-bing and your ability to handle stress.  Learn better breathing techniques and relax more by practicing this ancient art.
 
Zumba: 
Is a fusion of Latin and International music/dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting fitness program.  It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.  Dance away your worries!
 
Zumba Rapido: 
Rapido means fast.  You will move fast through every dance step to get you burning calories and toning the core.  This class is for participants who have mastered the Latin moves and needs minimal guidance.  Get ready to burn calories at a fun fast pace!!

Zumba Sculpt: This intense 45-minute sculpting class will have you leaning, reaching, twisting, and whittling your way to a sleek and sexy torso.  You will experience an AB-solutely fabulous workout of abdominal and lower back exercises, as well as movements that will allow you to literally give your rear end an attitude adjustment! You will “hit rock bottom” as we hit the ground for an intense lower body workout (target area = your tator!) that uses a million different exercises to target muscles you didn’t even know you had.  Come to a class where you will see results that really last! 

 Water Fitness

Master’s Swimming:  Open to all YMCA members aged 18 years or older, Master’s-level workouts help those who are interested in competitive swimming or are working toward fitness goals.  Practices occur during the week in the early morning hours.  Join anytime!

Arthritis Program:  In conjunction with the Arthritis Foundation, the Y provides this recreational group activity.  The program is designed to increase your range of motion and build strength, while decreasing pain and stiffness. 

Aquacise:  Water exercise is a great way to burn calories without putting extra stress on your joints!  Our aquacise class emphasizes low to moderate intensity exercise.

Water Works:  This is a high-intensity, water aerobics class.  Aerobic conditioning, toning, muscle training, interval aerobic training and optional deep-water training is included.
Deep Water Circuit Training:  Our water-based circuit training is a self-directed, non-impact activity.  A training program will teach you the exercises you need to meet your specific fitness goals.  The workout is performed while using flotation devices in the deep end of the pool.

 

 

Adapted Physical Education

The YMCA is equipped to handle the special accessibility and participatory needs of persons with mental or physical disabilities.  We have Adapted Physical Education (APE) staff on our team and we offer APE memberships at a reduced rate to those who qualify.

All in One Exercise Class:  This is an open recreation opportunity with universal weights, track and stationery bikes.

Bowling League:  Bowling is offered at AMF Laketown Lanes at Stanton and Stevenson DriveRamps and guides are provided.  The cost for this program is funded by local labor and trade unions.

Swimming:  Swimming is offered during any scheduled family swim.  Hoyer lift is available with advance notice.
