Welcome Back! The YMCA Missed YOU!

Reopening Plan and FAQs

IT IS TIME!  We will be resuming some of our offerings in compliance with State of Illinois Phase 3 requirements on Friday, May 29. Please understand we are following the guidelines set by Governor Pritzker as to when we can open and what we can offer in each stage. In State of Illinois Phase 3, gyms can provide one-on-one training and limited participant outdoor group exercise. As our region moves into State of Illinois Phase 4, more programs and facility access will be available.

Please be assured that the safety of all our members, program participants, and staff is our number one priority. We have followed guidance from the CDC, local health agencies and public officials to update our policies, practices, and procedures. This will ensure we are providing the highest standards of cleanliness and make appropriate accommodations for physical/social distancing.Opening our facilities with care helps us all stay safe and protected while getting back to what matters most: our health, our family and friends, and our community.

The following outlines the stepped/staged opening of the YMCA facilities, services, and programs. Each step outlines expectations, policies and procedures for people, facilities, programs, and activities and provides a summary of each COVID transmission prevention measure that will be implemented in each step/stage. The Y will not move into subsequent steps/stages of this plan until we find the safety protocols to be successful and its members to be cooperative in adhering to physical distancing guidelines.

We have provided here the most frequently asked questions regarding our reopening.  If these FAQ do not address your question, please feel free to complete the form at the bottom of this page and we will do our best to answer it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Facility and Program Changes

Our top priority is the health and well-being of our members, staff and community. We have made temporary changes in our common areas, exercise spaces and classrooms to promote physical/social distancing.

Although we will be providing outdoor group exercise classes in June, we will not be drafting membership fees until the facility reopens in Phase 4. If you would like to help us continue to serve our members and community by donating your membership fees, please CLICK HERE.

We know that COVID-19 may have some financial implications for our members. We are a charitable organization here to serve people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and incomes. We believe our programs and services should be available to everyone. If you want more information regarding our financial assistance program, PLEASE CLICK HERE

Swimming and other aquatics activities are excellent ways to get the physical activity needed for a healthy life. Following guidance from the CDC and the approval of Illinois Department of Public Health, the pools at the YMCA of Springfield will not be open until late in Phase 4.

We each have an important role in helping to ensure the health and safety of our Y community! To facilitate physical/social distancing between people in our exercise spaces and classrooms and ensure the highest standards for cleanliness, we have made the following changes:

  • Exercise classes are by reservation only to reserve a spot in a group ex class
  • Members will be asked to clean any equipment they use before and after each use
  • Equipment will be spaced or marked as unavailable to maintain appropriate social distance
  • Please bring a water bottle, towel and mask from home

We miss our Y kids, and we know our Y families are eager to know when our Child Watch program will resume.  Child Watch will not be available during Phase 3.  For the safety of group ex participants, we politely ask you to not bring your children to class. Child Watch will resume by reservation later in Phase 4.

The safety of our Y kids and campers is our number one priority. Summer camp has been postponed until June 29 assuming we are in Phase 4.  We are providing Summer Care starting June 1 until the opening of summer camp on June 29.  If you are interested in registering for Summer Care or Summer Camp, click these links for more information. We know bringing your child back into a social space like this may feel a little uncomfortable – if you have any questions or concerns or need any help at all, please contact Sarah Brewer at sbrewer@springfieldymca.org.

We are working hard to ensure a fun-filled and safe return to sports programming.  Our goal is to provide small group outdoor options in a format that abides by the state’s phased reopening guidelines.  We are targeting this to begin mid to late June.
