Chris

Chris bases his training on three essential principles: applied strength training; functional movement; and preventing injuries. He applies his experience in competitive weightlifting, obstacle course racing, and Biology and Chemistry to strength and conditioning in the weight room. Chris’ focus is grounded in a thorough understanding of human movement, physics, metabolism/energy production, and many other factors of optimal human performance. However, he’s not all science; Chris embraces the human side of training and enjoys figuring out athletes’ individual needs and pathways to success. When he’s not teaching, Chris enjoys exploring the outdoors, playing paintball and learning to cook authentic ethnic foods. Stephen

Location: Downtown YMCA & Kerasotes YMCA
Availability: Weekdays & Weekends

I have always been physically active: running, hiking, backpacking, paddling and rock climbing. My first real foray into the fitness world was in 2010, in my mid 40s, I decided to run my first Tough Mudder obstacle race. I was hooked and started training harder; and running 5k and 10k races, kayak races, trail runs and sprint triathlons. Becoming a personal trainer helped me achieve my own goals and inspired me to help others achieve theirs well, regardless of age.

My major interests are endurance training, Tabata, kettle bells, HIIT, and functional fitness. As we age, maintaining strength, bone density, flexibility, and agility can contribute to continued health.

Age does not matter, just be active. As active as you can. No time? Anything you do is better than doing nothing.

Kristen has 10 years of experience teaching fitness classes.  She has a group fitness certification from ACE and is also Silver Sneakers certified.  She currently enjoys teaching Power Pump, Ultimate Workout, Body Conditioning, and Silver Sneakers Yoga at the Y.
