    Let us take the intimidation factor of exercise equipment away by letting our trained staff take you through our Strive and Life Center stations. They will help you fit into the machines correctly and ensure you are using them in the most effective way. Staff can also answer questions about the cardiovascular equipment.     Gina

    Gina YMCA Springfield IL

    “I want to empower women to live their healthiest and happiest life.”

    Gina has over 20 years experience as a personal trainer. She loves empowering other women of all ages to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle. She has a Bachelor’s degree from U of I Champaign in Applied Health Science and has been certified by the American Council of Exercise since 1998.

    She holds several certifications including Yoga instructor for children, pre-post pregnancy, senior citizens, training for those with arthritis and fibromyalgia. She was the first state-wide Wellness Coordinator for the Illinois State Police. She was a trainer & fitness instructor in Colorado for several years before moving to North Carolina to work as an Exercise Physiologist at a hospital. There, she created exercise programs for those in the cardiac rehab program. She has competed in over 100 races from triathlons and marathons to mountain biking. She has two little boys who love their active lifestyle.

    Alan

    Alan YMCA Springfield IL

    Alan is a military veteran with a degree in Kinesiology from the University of Northern Colorado. His emphasis was in Fitness and Exercise with extended studies in Nutrition and Pedagogy. He began his career in hospital based fitness facilities performing stress tests, exercise prescriptions, body composition analysis, movement screens, lecturing and personal training. He has experience working with clients with fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes. He has trained single and multi-sport athletes, amateur and professional, and children and adults.

    Alan has been involved in the martial arts studying Shorin-Ryu Karate since 1976. He has achieved a fifth degree black belt. He continues to train and, on occassion, compete. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a USA Weightlifting Federation Level One Instructor. He’s previously held Life Guard and WSI certifications. He is currently CPR, AED, and First Aid certified.

    Alan enjoys providing people with new, interesting, and appropriate ways to glean and benefit the values of exercise.

    Cindy

    Location: Kerasotes YMCA
    Availability: Weekdays

    Cindy is a certified personal trainer through ACE. She has a passion to help others on their health and wellness journey to become the strongest, fastest, and healthiest version of themselves. She strives to push her clients beyond their comfort zone with functional fitness and out of the box thinking. Cindy holds a group fitness certificate through the Y where she has taught a variety of classes including Ultimate Workout, Body Conditioning, and Ballet Sculpt. She is also a 3 time Total Body Transformation Coach for the YMCA.

    Cindy has always been active, but her own fitness journey took a turn when her husband Darren pushed her to complete her first 5K. From that point on, she realized she is more than a number on a scale and that skinny does not equal healthy. She now sees food as the fuel, not the enemy and her goals no longer revolve around her negative body image, but rather around strength and what amazing thing her body can do next. Cindy has completed 4 marathons (including Chicago), an ultra marathon, Tough Mudder, River to River 80 mile relay, and multiple other races.

    DeAnne

    DeAnne believes that staying fit is a key to staying in good health and that health is the new wealth. Her fitness journey started in high school where she learned fundamentals of fitness as body movement along with strength training. She completed the Master Fitness Training Course in the United States Army and holds Personal Training Certifications from the World Instructor Training School (WITS) and the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

    Her main enjoyments in life are being a wife, helping others, and playing board games with her family. She is CPR/ AED certified.

    Richard

    Richard has been weight training for 10 years and will continue to exercise throughout the rest of his life. His goal is to bring people up with him by introducing them to new boundaries in modern-day exercises and motivate them by using various strategies to yield a healthier lifestyle. Health and fitness should be enjoyable, gratifying, and rewarding and Richard takes pride in balancing these values out in his specialized programs. After a college baseball career he has chosen to share his knowledge on techniques of different exercises to improve on strength, endurance, and flexibility. “As a personal trainer, I love the opportunity to be creative and show clients different ways to isolate targeted muscle groups so the weight room never loses its luster. I understand what it’s like to do the same thing over and over, and ultimately, get bored.” He brings a lot of energy to the table and is looking forward to providing free consultation to anybody with questions about personal training.

    Tayler

    Tayler earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Taylor discovered her love for fitness while in school and fell in love with the way it made her feel. She is new to personal training, but has been teaching group fitness for three years. Resistance training is Tayler’s personal favorite. She loves meeting new people, challenging her clients, and trying new things all while having fun working out. Fitness and working out are Tayler’s calm place and her me time. Taylor struggles just like everyone else, if she can do it, so can you because she believes in the power of a positive spirit.

    Stephen

    I have always been physically active: running, hiking, backpacking, paddling and rock climbing. My first real foray into the fitness world was in 2010, in my mid 40s, I decided to run my first Tough Mudder obstacle race. I was hooked and started training harder; and running 5k and 10k races, kayak races, trail runs and sprint triathlons. Becoming a personal trainer helped me achieve my own goals and inspired me to help others achieve theirs well, regardless of age.

    My major interests are endurance training, Tabata, kettle bells, HIIT, and functional fitness. As we age, maintaining strength, bone density, flexibility, and agility can contribute to continued health.

    Age does not matter, just be active. As active as you can. No time? Anything you do is better than doing nothing.

    Kristen

    Kristen’s fitness journey began after she had her first daughter.  She fell in love with Stroller Strides classes and became certified not long after to teach new moms, postpartum, and pregnant women.  Not long after she completed her first 5k and discovered a new passion.  She went on to complete numerous 5Ks, 10Ks, and a half marathon.

    Kristen has 10 years of experience teaching fitness classes.  She has a group fitness certification from ACE and is also Silver Sneakers certified.  She currently enjoys teaching Power Pump, Ultimate Workout, Body Conditioning, and Silver Sneakers Yoga at the Y.

    Her passion for exercise lead to her becoming a certified personal trainer through NASM.  She loves helping people get stronger, healthier, and achieve the goals they have set for themselves.  She enjoys empowering her clients to try new things, break old habits, and make positive changes to create an active, healthier lifestyle.
