If your child has a passion for Science and the Arts, then Camp Explorers is a perfect fit! Hosted at our new Downtown YMCA on 4th street, kids will enjoy using our new program areas such as our Quad and our half court, designed specifically for our YMCA kids to have a safe space directly for their use! We’ll incorporate some fun camp traditions each day such as camp chants, morning rallies, and swimming, as well as some extra fun learning experiences, with STEM projects, crafts, and group games! Counselors will lead kids in activities every day to help them grow physically, mentally, and morally based on the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Responsibility, and Respect.
Each week our campers will go on a field trip to places such as the Illinois State Museum and the St. Louis Aquarium, and then take a walking field trip to fun destinations around downtown, like the Springfield Art Association or historic downtown near the capital! We’ll kick off the summer with weekly themes that are focused on STEM, such as our Animal Planet week where we’ll learn about animals all over the world and the ones specific to Illinois, and then take a field trip to Scovill Zoo to put our brand-new knowledge to use. As summer progresses, we’ll move into themes concentrated on the Arts, like our Magic of Storytelling week, where we’ll do interactive activities based on classic stories from our childhood and take a fieldtrip to a play!
