The newest member or our Youth Development team comes to us from Beaumont, Texas.  Sarah’s love for theatre started in high school when she was a Sophomore and was asked put on her high school’s first play.  She oversaw costumes, directing, set design and sound.  She knew then and there that this was something she wanted to pursue in college. She studied at Union University in Tennessee, but when her grandfather got sick, she moved back to Beaumont to take care of her grandparents and finished her degree in theatre at Lamar University in Beaumont.

She spent some time in New Orleans where she worked at local theatres and was part of the Mardi Graz Crews – where she was responsible for designing and decorating floats for Mardi Gras. She eventually received her Master’s Degree in Technical Theatre with an emphasis on Scene Design.  She met her husband and they married and both ended up in Billings Montana where she taught at Rocky Mountain College for the last eleven years.  While teaching, she was extremely active in local theatre.  She was the Community Education Commissioner for USITT (United States Institute of Theatre Technology).

A few years after the arrival of their daughter, Betty, Sarah and her husband, Chris wanted their daughter to grow up near family. Chris was born and raised near the Springfield area, so they moved to Springfield. Sarah started with the YMCA in January of this year.

The thing Sarah likes the most about the YMCA is the environment and the atmosphere. She loves working with kids and has put together some outstanding specialty camps at Kerasotes.  Sarah has some great ideas for engaging kids this fall with an after school STEM (Science, Technology ,Engineering and Math) Club. We are so lucky to have someone that is dedicated to making sure our members – even our smallest ones have a great experience at the YMCA.  Please welcome one of our newest members of our team!
